Click on the link in the sidebar to see the live demo.

Click here to download the zip file.

This theme is a clean and simple design, set up for you to be able to customize it. I have included seven different header images for you to choose from in the /images file.

Customization Information: learn how to edit your CSS and read a beginning lesson on changing the font color of your header.

To change the header image, open the Stylesheet file in the Theme Editor, and change the header image name in the following area of code in the #head section near the top of the file:

background-image: url(images/headerdrop.jpg);

Here are the header images:

headerleaf.jpg:

headerred.jpg:

headerroad.jpg:

headerrose.jpg:

If you haven’t already found a host for your web site, I recommend 1and1. They’ve been absolutely great for me and the price is very good. Click the button below to check them out:

    hi randa. may i re-designed your DIY theme for a blogger xml template?

    thank you.

  4. Randa Clay on November 1, 2007 7:16 am

    Sure, if you retain my link in the footer. :)

  5. Steve on November 7, 2007 5:44 pm

    How do you add the time to a post in DIY?

  6. Peter on December 4, 2007 7:23 pm

    Beautiful, but the right column drops down. There’s so many design with errors like that. Annoying. You should not publish till it’s fixed - and you should give a little more info about the designs (read for widgets? Adsense? Whatmore?)

    Good luck!

    Peter

  7. admin on December 4, 2007 9:25 pm

    You’re the first to report the right column dropping down. What resolution are you using?

  8. Bong (JB) on December 11, 2007 8:00 am

    Nice theme! We’ll try it out in our blog. Thanks. Greta blog you have here.

    With regard to the right column dropping down, check the size of images in your posts. If the width is too great, the column will drop. You may need to resize post images. I limit mine to a width of 425 pixels and don’t have a problem with it anymore.

    There’s a great WP plugin called iMax Width that will take care of it for you.

  11. Steve on January 18, 2008 1:26 pm

    Oops. Link for iMax Width should be http://www.soldesignco.com/wordpress-imaxwidth.html.

  13. ibFly on February 5, 2008 1:43 am

    I want to know how to add a manu similar to http://www.celebritycowboy.com (with the search feature). I could really use this instead of having it in my right bar. Than I would be all set.

    Please help!

    I would also like to change my bullets into stars.

  14. ibFly on February 5, 2008 1:44 am

    How I hate the comments portion. I would like to be able to have a section for Name, Email and Website.

    How do I do this?

  15. ibFly on February 5, 2008 1:44 am

    I also want to add images to the right and left sidebars… a lot I know.

  16. Rick NHS on February 22, 2008 2:58 pm

    Those are awesome themes, I’ve downloaded the zip file… now if I can just find the time to modify a couple of my blogs!! I particularly liked the one titled ‘headerroad’ It reminds me of Arizona, and I’m going to recommend it to a friend of mine who recently started a Arizona Fisherman blog! Thanks!

  17. Travis on February 28, 2008 12:35 pm

    Thanks for the theme. I’ve searched low and high but can’t figure out where the dotted lines between posts or betweeen posts and comments are coming from. I’d like to turn them off.

    Any help?

    Thanks,
    Travis

  18. Randa Clay on February 28, 2008 12:45 pm

    Hi Travis - you can turn off that dotted line by going into the Stylesheet and finding this section:
    .item {
    padding: 0px 20px 10px 20px;
    margin-bottom: 1.5em;
    color: #333333;
    border-bottom: 1px dotted #cccccc;
    font-size: 1.3em;
    line-height: 1.4em;
    }

    Just remove the “border-bottom” line. Hope that helps!

    I’m looking for a wordpress theme that can be used with various ecommerce plugins. I think that I may have just found what I’m looking for.

    Thank you for the great theme and I look forward to the customization info. Being only HTML literate, I really appreciate you sharing this idea.

    I really like your headers thanks for providing them. I especially like the header water and field with the brilliant skies, very peaceful settings. Makes a very inspiring theme for a website.

  26. Rick Ankrum on May 1, 2008 12:21 am

    I just started using your DIY theme. The width is good, the look is pleasing and I like the easy CSS editing.

    One problem I am having though is getting the tags to show for each post. Any idea how to turn these on?

    Also I am trying our Woopra but my stats are not appearing in Woopra. Do you know of any issues with the DIY theme? Woopra says the theme has to be standards compliant. Is DIY theme standards compliant?

  27. Monavie on May 1, 2008 5:26 pm

    Great info, downloading now. It seems like a really clear design.

    Thanks

  39. Blogging Pinay on July 24, 2008 2:04 am

    Like what others have said this one is a very clean theme which is quite useful for a review site or any blog whose topic needs more focus on its content rather than on the colors in the page. I’m a bit of a newb in css so hopefully I an get this to work the way I want. ^^

  40. Anne on September 10, 2008 6:04 am

    The Headers with Rose and drop are amazing… Whe will you come up with more of them?

  41. Paige on October 12, 2008 10:23 am

    When you say “open the Stylesheet file in the Theme Editor,” where do I get the “Theme Editor?” Or is it just notepad I am supposed to use? Thank you. Great topic.

  42. Dot on October 27, 2008 4:48 pm

    To Paige - Theme Editor is found in Wordpress Dashboard. Click Design, then Theme Editor.

    To Randa - I’ve been using this theme for months now and I still love it. I’m wondering if it would be hard for me to convert it from 2 sidebars to 1.

  43. electronic projects on November 15, 2008 7:33 am

    nice theme.

    Great looking theme with some really nice headers. Its a simple yet very elegant theme. Well done.

  47. George on December 2, 2008 2:14 pm

    Beautiful! I’m new here and so amazed what a talented web designer can do. The blue abstract design is the best. I also love the “smoke” on the red background. The fourth design I’ve already seen somewhere - prooves that people are already using it.

  48. Matthew Anderson on December 5, 2008 3:46 pm

    Nicely placed affiliate link there! Having used 1and1 in the past I know they offer some good low cost hosting opportunities. Nice blog btw - i’m a beginner really and enjoying pouring over yours posts

    Nice neat and clean theme with blue+white color combination. And good try with the theme customization tips too.

    But I’ll a small critic on the theme coding. You could have use the divs ( and ) only once by including it in the respective files l_sidebar.php and r_sidebar.php respectively. This will reduce the file size and speed up the call of php files.

    Thanks
    Gary

  53. PC Sport Live on January 18, 2009 10:45 pm

    Prefer the blue bird theme as opposed to this oen, it would give me a lot more to work with. Still a very nice theme for people who want a little more side bar content

  54. Ryan on January 19, 2009 2:34 am
