Sketchcast: The Basics of CSS

Since I first heard of sketchcasting several months ago, I’ve been interested in doing one because it is such an effective way to communicate information quickly. So, when Sketchcast.com came on the scene just recently, I was ready to give it a try, and here is my first effort. I’m sorry about the vague hum in the background. We moved recently, and my nice microphone is buried somewhere, but I did manage to dig out an old one that worked!

This sketchcast explains the basics of CSS. I know there are many out there who would like to understand CSS better, but don’t feel like they’re technical enough, or just don’t know where to start. This is an overview of how CSS works and how it is used in a blog. I hope you find it to be helpful, and I would appreciate any feedback you might have.

Thanks for the video, I’m just trying to get to grips with CSS and it was a big help. I’ve also been using the tutorials at Tizag.com.

Anything can get as complicated as the Internet Explorer team want to make it, you mean?

      Nice explanation Randa :)

I just heard of Sketchcasting for the first time about a week ago, and meant to look into it then and there, but tossed the bookmark into my “To Read” folder and immediately forgot it. ;)

I have a feeling something like this is going to catch on soon like a grass fire (just as video blogging did). It’s certainly a cool idea.

Nice job on the tutorial too!

I followed the ifollow logo from another blog to your blog. I’ve been following all along, I just never had the logo.

Anyway, I could not find where to comment on that particular post, so I’m commenting here. :-)

Nice video, i like how it portrays the information in a way that looks fun and is easy to understand. I allways find using colours will help any presentation. when i first learned about css it was from an old lynda.com video, that video was extremely boring to say the least.

CSS is the most important part of design. It can make or break a site. CSS literally defines the goal of a site. Lightweight? Brilliant-looking? Heavy? It can all be defined through CSS. A basic knowledge of html is easy, but I still have to master the CSS part.

Thank Randa. You have a great skill to explain CSS so simply. I modify my stylesheets in my blogs but usually over my head quickly and I don’t want to be a designer, just a tweaker. I couldn’t get the functions of ID vs Class but now I do. I will be reading your blog from now on.

Thanks for creating this scetchcast, so this is the latest trend?
Scetchcast, interesting. I get the feeling that it wont last even as long as podcasts will.

Randa, thank-you. That little bit of information actually cleared up some things for me. Very simple and yet very informative. Please do some more.
