A Rainbow of Free Round RSS Icons

round rss icon round rss icon round rss icon round rss icon round rss icon round rss icon
As I was developing my Round and Round theme, I looked around for some round RSS icons to put with the feed link, and didn’t find any, so I made some. I thought there might be others who would be interested, so I thought I would do several colors and share them here. If you just want one 32px icon, grab it from here in the post. If you want the whole set of icons, here’s the zip file. It contains a 16px, 32px and 64px of each color above (PNG files). Also, here’s the EPS file, if you’d rather use that to customize the color to one more to your liking.

(you might be wondering, why didn’t the cute little round icon show up in the theme demo? That’s because I made a mistake in how I called the image… but, that’s another post)

I like them, they should go well with your upcoming theme design

Ohhh! RSS Skittles! Like the classic kind. Not the passion-in-your-face-sour-jungle flavors. These are great :)

How could you, Lara? There is no blue skittle!

I think the orange one would go great with your theme. Possibly the blue, to compliment the scheme and draw attention.

I’m not sure about using anything other than orange personally. It’s ingrained in most people’s minds (those familiar with RSS anyway) and it’s best to make it as easy as possible for people to find your feed button.

What are your thoughts on that Randa?

No blue skittle? I’m interested that you should know this David. What other little ephemera do you have floating around in your head?
The feed icon site had a bunch of colors so I thought I would do a bunch too. I probably wouldn’t stray far from orange, but if I were using the big icon and made it obvious in other ways, I wouldn’t mind using another color. I certainly wouldn’t use a 16×16 purple icon and put it below the fold, for example. You’re right though, when people are interested in subscribing, the scan the page for orange.

Very nice! I’ll install one of them today. Too bad you don’t have a 128×128 version though.

Round is definitely so much better - although I’m not entirely sure why? I’d like to install it but I think that’s probably beyond my technical capabilities.
      Cheers

I think that this looks awesome. I appreciate it and would like to add one. How did you go about making them?

I just downloaded the files from the feed icon site, and changed the rounded square to a circle, and changed the colors. It was pretty quick. Glad you like them!

I love this blog! The theme is right up my alley. Welcome to the Gack Ink Network

Sweet! I can’t decide which color to use… maybe I would just put them all as you have them there so it is an array of RSS.

      thanks for figuring it out

I LOVE these buttons. They are so cute. Sounds like you could open a button candy store- seems like we’re all hungry for new, colorful shapes.

Very cool little buttons! I’ll have to experiment with them a bit in a theme I’ve been considering for my blog.

Did you say free icons? I am always looking for free ones. They are nice. Thanks!

Could you give them a 3D look and add a shine to make them look like real skittles? That would be great.

One thing, a lot of web users still don’t know what that logo represents. I adapted one rss icon by adding the letters RSS to the front and made that part of the reflection on my science site. Now, you might say, a lot of web users won’t know what RSS stands for either, but at least there’s chance that the curious will look it up and discover the wonders of newsfeeds; it’s especially important to add a “What is RSS?” explanatory link near the icon.

      Keep up the good work.

I think it depends on your readership as to how much explanation of RSS might be warranted. I definitely explain it more on my niche sites. Adding a bevel on the icons is a good idea - maybe I’ll have time to get to that sometime soon!

Difficult to know where the balance might be, but worth experimenting with different levels and bevels certainly
