    hi…
    I am using your beautiful bluebird theme’s structure for my Dear Holy Spirit Blog. I edited the stylesheet but the font face wouldn’t change no matter what I did. Is there someplace hidden I can get it to change to Arial? I’m tearing my hair out! I’m stuck.

  2. Randa Clay on December 13, 2007 9:21 am

    Hi there - it’s not changing because you’ve indicated Arial as your “second choice” font. You’ve listed it after Georgia, and you need to list it first. See below:

    font: 62.5% Arial, Georgia, Veranda; /* Resets 1em to 10px */

    I’ve been using the 3-column version of the theme for about a month now and I love it. I did notice today that my blogroll is not on the page and I’d like to add it to one of the columns. I’ve looked through my dashboard and looked for widget to add it, but I’m coming up with no luck.

    What do I need to do to have the Blogroll display?

  10. Randa on February 14, 2008 8:53 am

    Janet- are you using sidebar widgets to control the sidebars? Look in Presentation/Widgets, and you should see the sidebars there and the widgets below to fill them. You’ll have to transfer over any customization you’ve done to the sidebar into some text widgets of course. Ping me an e-mail through the contact form at randaclay.com if you need help. :)

    Hi - I LOVE your Bluebird theme and am using it at agreenerbaby.com. I have some weird issue where explorer is moving my sidebars WAY left. Any ideas?
    Thanks so much in advance.

    I noticed that http://twitter.com/ is using your bird logo, but they don’t seem to have you credited. I thought I would give you a heads up if it is something. Feel free to delete this comment. :)

    How beautiful and just what I would like to use on my blog site…however it’s on blogger…anyway to change this use for that blog program? Thanks in advance, and again Beautiful Work.

  14. Randa Clay on March 18, 2008 2:39 pm

    Miriam - the bird was purchased from iStockPhoto, so it’s not my illustration. Thanks though, for pointing it out, just in case.

    Paula - while it would be possible to convert this into a Blogger theme, it’s not something I have time to do in the coming month or so. Very swamped with work, etc. I will keep it in mind though! Thanks for your comment!

  16. AmandaL on March 19, 2008 3:28 pm

    I’ve been using the 3-column version of this theme for the past month, and while it looks fantastic in Firefox and Safari, it looks like crap in IE (version 6, at least). I haven’t changed column widths or anything, so I don’t know what’s causing the problem… help, please?

  17. Utkarsh Kukreti on March 22, 2008 11:49 am

    Well this theme has some problems when viewing in IE6, and as IE6 is still the maximum used browser, I think you should make the theme compatible.

    I agree, and I will be updating the theme very soon. Thanks!

    I like your bird so much! it’s amazing theme.

    But 43% of guests at my site use IE6.0, and sidebars are invisible for them (because of it moves down)…

  22. Tempest on March 31, 2008 10:11 am

    Just installed your theme and *love it*. However, I was wondering if there was an easy way to get the post “tags” to show up as well as the categories?

  23. Randa on April 4, 2008 3:40 pm

    Regarding the sidebar moving down in IE6 - I have not been able to reproduce that problem, and neither has anyone else I’ve asked to check on their system. No matter what width my window is, in IE6 the sidebars remain as they should be. If someone has a site where that is happening, please comment here and include the URL - thanks!

  24. Randa on April 4, 2008 3:43 pm

    Tempest - if you want to display the tags, check this page in the WordPress codex. Insert the piece of code in the Main Index Template file and also I assume you’ll want to insert them in the Single Post file in the same place.

    If anyone has problems with the 2 column version in IE6 with the sidebar floating to the bottom, please check to be sure none of the images you’ve put in the sidebar are bigger than 170 pixels wide. The sidebar is rather narrow to ensure that the whole site will fit in an 800×600 resolution, and if you try and put images there that are bigger, the sidebar will float to the bottom of the site.

  31. Ross on June 27, 2008 3:32 am

    Really beautiful! My first though was also a poetry-blog. The 2-column one looks much better than the 3-column one!

    Another great theme :-)
    This has a very creative/artisitc feel to it…I have wrote MANY poems, and if I ever feel the urge to share them (sometimes I do), this will be the theme I use!

    The 3 Column seems to be taking up too much space, 2 column is perfect. Nice work…

    Hi - For some reason there is no line break in Sidebar 2 between the first and second widget - I have the Text widget and then the blogroll - and the run into each other with no paragraph break (one single line). Can you help me locate that code?

    Website is: http://carolyncreative.com/
    Sidebar 2

    I love the theme! It makes me happy and is really nice looking.

    thanks,
    Alexa

  39. Alexa on October 29, 2008 12:32 pm

    Oh - forgot second issue - and this one is more of a problem! There appears to be no page numbers listed in the list of pages. This makes it virtually impossible to suppress the pages in the widget for pages (i have to guess). Can you tell me how to make the page number appear somewhere hidden so I can figure out what to suppress? Thank you -
    Alexa

  40. Alexa on October 29, 2008 12:35 pm

    Sorry - meant Page ID if that wasn’t clear… usually it appears on the Mange Pages listing…

  41. Randa Clay on October 29, 2008 2:01 pm

    Hi there. On the text-widget thing, you can add several line breaks to the widget to fix that:
    To get the page ID, mouse over the page title in the manage pages admin area, and look at the bottom of your browser on the left (at least that’s where it is in Firefox) - it will give you the page ID at the end of the long URL where it says post=x. x is your page id. :)

  42. Alexa on November 3, 2008 10:11 pm

    Hi there - Sorry, I’m back. Two more issues:
    1) The theme is not rotating my images (or is that the WP Gallery functionality?) It’s inserting them all as horizontal regardless of fact that it’s vertical in Gallery and uploaded file, AND if I override the size settings (it will just resize it).

    2) For some reason the tree is cut off on the right of http://www.carolyncreative.com - looks like it’s from Sidebar 1 -can you help me correct it to what it should be (and originally was)? Thanks!

    Alexa

  43. Alexa on November 3, 2008 10:17 pm

    Hello -

    Well, disregard #1 above. for some reason WP didn’t like this pic upload and kept rotating it but I resolved it.

    But, #2 still out there for answer and now another - sorry!

    3) The caption design in the post when writing is how I’d like it to look (and assumed it would) but the end result in a published post puts it in the body paragraph font and not within the image border. Why is that and how to I fix it?

    Thanks -
    Alexa

  44. Alexa on November 12, 2008 11:27 am

    Hi again -

    I really need some help - is there another support forum somewhere because I’d be happy to check there? My issues remain and the website owner needs to send this website out to get some freelancing business urgently:

    1) The right side “curl” of the tree is missing - I’m assuming the image is held somewhere in the CSS but don’t know how to restore it? Please look at: http://www.carolyncreative.com/

    2) The caption design is not working - it shows in one design in draft, but then publishes with the usual CSS when it’s on the live site. And, it’s preventing the gallery from working now. Can I get some help with the photo caption CSS?

    Thank you -
    Alexa

  45. Randa Clay on November 13, 2008 10:03 am

    Because the font is smaller in your header than the original design, and the width isn’t specified in that section, it cut the image off. Add the following width specification to the CSS #headleft section:

    width:550px;

    Regarding the caption, there is no styling in the stylesheet for caption. You can add the following to the stylesheet and then play around with it until it looks the way you want:
    .wp-caption {
    margin-right: 20px;
    padding: 0px;
    }

    .wp-caption img {
    margin: 0px 10px 10px 0px;
    padding: 0px;
    border: 0px;
    }

    .wp-caption p.wp-caption-text {
    margin: 0px;
    padding: 5px 0px 0px 0px;
    font-size: 10px;
    font-style: italic;
    font-weight: bold;
    line-height: 12px;
    }

  53. Pam on January 7, 2009 3:06 pm

    Hi Randa,

    Has this been tested in WP 2.7? Is it compliant? Reason I am asking is that I am just starting a new blog and am using 2.7. I removed the default Links that WP puts on a new blog, however Blogroll is still showing in the third column. Weirder yet, the Links widget (nor any other) is showing as being used in either side bar. Would love some help with this if you can.

    Thanks.
    Pam

  54. Randa Clay on January 7, 2009 4:55 pm

    There are things in the sidebar because they are hardcoded in the theme in case there are no widgets used. If you put in widgets, they will show up instead of what’s there now. :)

  55. Pam on January 7, 2009 4:59 pm

    Hi Randa,

    Thanks so much for the quick answer and the awesome template. So if i understand it, i can add the links widget and it will replace the Blogroll that is already there? But if i do not want a blog roll, I will have to modify the template to remove the blogroll title?

    Thanks again
    Pam

    Thank you!

  59. Randa on February 11, 2009 4:44 pm

    Sandra, you can check the Wordpress Codex info on template tags for getting the author to display. You’ll need to edit your code to add the template tag where you want it to display in the theme. :)

    Thanks for the beautiful theme, one of the best I’ve come across and I think I’ve looked through hundreds!

    I have one question…Is it possible to increase the left side margin so that the 2 column theme is more centered? I’m so used to looking at the center of the screen that reading on the far left is distracting.

    In every other way, this blog theme is perfect! :)
    Thanks so much!

    Hi Randa, I have used your 3 column bluebird theme before and now wanting to try the 2 column one. I would like to make the theme wider to fit a 15 inch laptop screen. To modify the width I think I would need to change the values in:

    ul.menu {
    margin: 0px;
    padding: 0px;
    position: absolute;
    z-index:1;
    top: 20;
    left: 580px;
    width: 210px;
    and

    #content {
    width: 560px;
    float: left;
    and

    #secondary {
    width: 170px;
    padding: 0px;
    float: right;
    }

    #l_sidebar {
    float: left;
    width: 170px;

    Would you say those are the only places in the style sheet I would need to change the width settings?

  69. Randa on September 22, 2009 11:34 am

    Yes, that’s probably it. You could try it using the Firefox add-on called Firebug, just to be sure it works before making it live.

  70. Randa on September 22, 2009 11:37 am

    @Kara - Yes, those modifications are certainly possible. You’d need a graphics program to change the size of the bird of course.

  71. Kam on January 20, 2010 3:28 pm

    Wonderful theme Randa - I have a friend who enjoys writing short stories/poems as a hobby, and I told to use Wordpress (she wants to get more exposure and publish online)…and guess which theme came to my mind? This one!! It will do the perfect job and she loves it.

    Thank you for doing such a good job with it. Best wishes.

    P.S - I’ll try getting her to put a link up on here once the site is complete :-)
