David escaped the “terrible twos” with not very much terrible.  He gets upset now and then- throws his hands up and cries things like “Now I’ll never get to play anything ever again!!!!” and wails, but it never lasts long. He’s never even had a real temper tantrum. Maybe 3 will be his year for that.

He loves puzzles, building things and drawing. He’s got really good fine motor skills for a little guy and can write some letters and draws funny pictures with funny descriptions to go along with them. He is very affectionate and always wants kisses and hugs. I was explaining to him what a wife was recently, and asked him if he thought he’d have a wife one day, and he said “Yes! And I’ll give her WOTS of kisses!”

Not long after I last wrote, we went to Ohio for about a month while Mark was out of town on business. We had a great time, and the boys especially enjoyed playing with Emily and Benjamin and meeting their new cousin Aron.

Jack is still plugging along with his schoolwork and taking on more chores at home. David has become a big boy overnight it seems. Just in the last month he’s begun to sit through church and is potty trained!!! I feel like I’ve passed a milestone, having moved the changing table into my closet, and spent my last Sundays in the nursery.

Honestly though, I AM going to miss this. I’m going to miss their little hands in mine, hearing them laugh together while they play, their funny quotes… I’m trying to enjoy every minute and am so grateful to God for giving them to us.

Aw… so sweet.

And… it’s over.

Look at the glee on David’s face. He loves to wrestle. (Jack likes it too, even though he looks rather uncomfortable in the picture.) David is a rough and tumble boy. He has begun to peepee in the potty intermittently. I asked him if he knew that because he was a boy he could “shoot” peepee into the potty and that really piqued his interest, and he wants everyone to come watch him “shoot” when he goes.

Destructo Boy (as we like to call him) has quite the dramatic flair, and can turn on the tears like a girl- huge dramatic sobs, hands over face., head thrown back…  but mostly he’s just sweet. He firmly believes in the healing power of kisses. He will come in bawling about being hurt and crying “can you kiss it?” Once kissed, crying abruptly stops, he says “thank you Mommy!” and out he runs!

We’ve taken down the crib and moved David into the bottom bunk. He’s done well with it and has only fallen out a couple of times. He’s begun skipping naps now and then, so we’re transitioning to “rest time” earlier than with Jack. It’s been hugely helpful to have this new traffic light alarm clock to help him to know when it’s okay to get up. We have far fewer fights in the morning in which David is arguing that he wants to get up and Jack is telling him (in increasingly high pitched tones) that it’s NOT 7 o’clock!!!!

We’re getting plenty of the terrible twos of course. Lots of big boo-hooing over everything under the sun. Lots of screaming at Jack for various minor insults and injuries, both real and imagined.  But, he balances it out with lots of kisses and hugs and cuteness!

One of my favorite things about David is his spontaneous affection. He LOVES kisses and hugs. I was making dinner the other day and he wandered into the kitchen and said “I need a hug.” Then he went back to beat up on Jack some more. It’s payback time.
