David @ 22 Months
May 04
David has taken the changes in his life this month completely in stride. I was prepared for weeks of fussing about leaving the glasses on, and we ended up having no problems at all. Some have suggested that maybe it’s because he can actually see now, but we really couldn’t tell he was having problems seeing. He enjoyed looking at books, both with us and on his own. He could recognize some letters and shapes at a normal distance.
The only real problem we’re having is that boys will wrestle. In fact, I want them to wrestle- it’s a great way to get some excess energy out. But, wrestling and glasses is not a good combination. So, if it looks like they’re in for a good wrestling session, I just take David’s glasses off and tell them to have at it.
It’s a real challenge to keep him busy while I’m doing schoolwork with Jack. It’s only a 15-30 minute time frame, but David has a hard time not being right in the middle of what we’re doing. I’ve been trying to engineer activities that will keep him engrossed and hoping that next year when we are spending a little more time doing school he’ll be a little more manageable.
At bedtime, as he’s trying to delay us going out the door, he’s learned that just the best lure is to say “more kisses!” How can Mommy resist more kisses?
