Jack @ 3 Years & 5 Months
Dec 15
What happened to my little boy? I’m finally beginning to get a taste of what other people feel about the toddler years, feeling sad that their kids have grown up. (I used to think they were insane to miss such a challenging time) Jack’s a long way from grown up, but he’s changing into a big boy and I’m starting to miss his little baby face.
Potty training is going well. Jack hasn’t had a #1 accident in weeks. He still refuses to #2 in the potty and I’ve been advised by mothers with more experience than I to act as if I don’t care either way. They say that kids enjoy the feeling of in control of the situation and knowing they can refuse to use the potty and you can’t really do anything to make them. I have taken away a couple of things that he really enjoys. He’s not allowed to watch any TV or movies right now, and surprisingly that hasn’t been as difficult an adjustment as I thought it was going to be. When he does get that privilege back, it will be extremely limited.
Recently, as I took off his nighttime diaper and said to Jack, “Let’s put your pull-up underwear on.” Jack replied, “No thanks. I’d rather keep my naked on for a while.”
A new family has moved in next door and they have two friendly mutts who get really excited when Jack comes outside to play. Jack will go over and sit next to the fence and have long talks with the dogs, and sing them songs and then ask their opinion of his performance. In the above picture Jack is singing to the dogs at the top of his lungs!
We’ve enjoyed the weather this month, as it’s much warmer than Ohio so Jack can still get outside to play many days even this far into the Fall season. He recently discovered the rake and has enjoyed piling up leaves so he can jump in them.
