Noggin Imponderables

I’ve been watching the Noggin channel with all the preschooler programs for a while now, and there are some things that have really been puzzling me:
- What is with Dora’s head? No one else in her family has an enormous “noggin” like she does, so it doesn’t appear to be genetic. I wouldn’t have wanted to give birth to that girl.
- Where are Max and Ruby’s parents? You see Grandma sometimes, but in most cases, Max and Ruby appear to live alone. That can’t be safe. Max will catch the house on fire at some point at the rate he’s going. I know what I’m talking about too- my sister caught the kitchen on fire one time when my parents were out of town and left us home alone.
- Does Charlie on Maisy Mouse have some sort of mental issue? He laughs that creepy, goofy laugh almost constantly. Maybe he’s off his meds.
- In all these years, didn’t anyone even consider telling Bert he has a unibrow? He’s apparently the fastidious one in the pair, but while Ernie apparently just shaved his eyebrows off completely, Bert can’t manage to do a little personal grooming between those giant bushy eyebrows. Or, is it like Pres. Bush always saying “Nuc-u-lar” instead of Nuclear- no one wants to be the one to tell him it makes him look stupid?
- What is Uniqua on the Backyardigans anyway? We’ve got a penguin, a buffalo, hippo, etc, so what is Uniqua supposed to be?
- Why is Franklin the only one on his show to have a name? Why don’t all his friends just call him Turtle? He calls them Bear and Rabbit and Mr. Mole, etc. Seems a little selfish if he thinks that just because it’s his show he gets to be the only one with a real name.
Anyone else have some unanswered questions for Noggin? Let me know and I’ll compile a complete list and send it off to them.

Randa – this makes me laugh! I could definitely add to your list – I have been watching these shows with my kids for too many years – although we are starting to move away from many of them. I need my coffee first and then I’ll see what I can come up with.
Charlie has been a favorite in our house for a long time. My wife says my impression of him is spot on.
And don’t get me started on Oobi! 🙂
Uniqua is just that unique. No one knows for sure what she is. 🙂
Wow, someone else that thinks the same way as me about Max And Ruby…Ruby is only 7 and has to bring Max everywhere with her. I think the Christmas one upsets me the most. THey have a scraggly little tree and Ruby is so excited to see if Santa came. What if the real Santa never came to see them>>>
I’ve also often pondered the mystery of Max and Ruby’s missing parents. I noticed in one episode there’s a framed picture of the whole family, including parents, but they never actually show up. Rather disturbing.
I’ve been informed that Uniqua is suppposed to be some sort of gecko or lizard-type-thing, but I remain unconvinced.
This is hilarious! My little boy and I were just having the conversation about Uniqua so i had to look it up. We had decided that she was a creature that represnted all of the reptile or amphibious creatures or a martian after the choices of a pig, a turtle with no shell, a short and stubby inch worm, a butterfly with no wings, and a lizard. I finally found an explaination and it said that she is made up, she is “unique”. That is why her name is “Uniqua”.
Dora’s head is bigger than even many adults on her show.

1. My compaint with Dora was when the twins went missing.. Why are they not running to find the twins. Why did no one call 911?
2. Ruby is polite but bossy. Max rarely gets to do anything he wants to first. Let Max do what he wants for a change.
3. We haven’t seen maisy mouse, at least I haven’t
4. Unibrow is what makes Bert.. Bert
5. I think at one point I decided Uniqua was a purple cow.
6. Franklin is a Diva off screen..

Noggin watcher for years……My husband & I always wondered why all the animals on Little Bear talk but Tutu, the dog?
My wife is correct. Noggin has something against dogs in general. For instance, how come the octopus, the penguin, the tree etc all talk on Oswald, but not Weenie the dog??
