Craft project
Nov 20
I have seen these magnets on several sites, and have always thought I’d like to make some. A crafty mood struck last Thursday, and I went out and bought the stuff. It’s a cheap project. All you need is the flat glass bead things you can find in floral departments, which they sell for use in vases to hold fake flowers up. These were about $2.50 for 20 or so at JoAnn’s. The magnets were also about $2.50 for 10, and I bought Liquid Nails Perfect Glue #1. Silicone sealer works well too. You have to have a glue that dries clear, and I was really pleased with how this one worked.
For the first magnets I did the Fruit of the Spirit. I used the Microsoft Clip Art site for the fruit clip art. I printed them on photo paper, because I wanted something heavier than just plain copy paper- I was afraid the magnet would show through. Turns out though, that any paper would be fine. We made some again at Laura’s house on Saturday night and we cut pictures from magazines, and it worked really well. Anyway, once they were printed, I laid the glass beads on top and traced around them. (The beads were a bit irregular in shape and not all exactly the same size.) Then I cut inside the line I had traced and started gluing. I glued the paper to the beads first and let that dry and then glued the magnets to the back. You have to sort of push the air bubbles out of the glue between the paper and the bead. They turned out great – so cute. |
