Advice please…

Next Tuesday, Jack and I are traveling by plane to Texas. We’ve done this before, twice, and it was fine, and I didn’t have any worries about flying with him. Somehow this time, however, I’m concerned that I’ll never be able to keep him occupied, happy and well fed during two flights and a short time in Memphis while we’re changing planes. When will I change his diaper? I don’t think there is time in Memphis. Is this the time to learn the diaper changing while standing trick? How will I get a carry on bag, a car seat and Jack all into the plane without causing some unsuspecting passenger a concussion while struggling down the aisle? Maybe a kindly flight attendant will take pity on me. Anyway, if anyone has any helpful hints, I would appreciate them. I am imagining worst-case scenarios where Jack throws a screaming fit in the plane and throws up all the crackers I’ve stuffed him with to keep him entertained.

Randa,
Have fun! I did this last year to Montana – with the help of my family. I did about knock a couple of people out trying to squeeze myself and a car seat down the isle – I do believe they let people with small children on first….however there is not enough room to get you and the car seat in and get it tightly secured — just don’t tighten it too much. Remember – the belts buckle more in the middle so it is more difficult. On our flight back – the belt tightened as we flew so at midnight back here at port Columbus I was stuck with a flight attendant trying to get it unbuckled – to no avail! Finally the two pilots came back to see what the problem was. After about 30 minutes – they finally got it loose enough to take the air plane seat apart – literally – and unlatch the seat belt from under the seat in order for me to get Karter’s car seat out! Fun! I would suggest a luggage strap to help carry the carseat, NEW small toys/books/crayons that will interest him on the flight, fruit snacks and boxed drinks – if they allow it now. Karter loved airplanes so he watched them and that helped. Good luck and PRAY!
