Brian Yerkes is compiling a collection of business cards of bloggers on his site, and I thought I would throw mine into the pile. I happen to have a business card because of my design business, and my blog is listed prominently because it’s sort of “Randa Clay Central” when it comes to my design work.
Would I have a business card if my blog was about something like basket weaving, for example? Yes… here are just a couple of reasons:
ProBlogger lists business cards as the #1 way to increase readership through offline methods.
Chris Garrett notes in a recent post from SOBCon that he seemed to be the only blogger there without a business card. These are some of the most successful bloggers in the business, and they all have found value in having business cards.
Business cards for your blog do not have to be expensive. For months I have been meaning to get some MooCards for my FreeStuff4Kids site. I run into other parents all the time at parks, doctor’s offices, etc. who would be potential readers of the site. Having some cute little MooCards to hand out would be ideal. (Now I just need to get my butt in gear and get them printed…)
Do you have a business card for your blog? Have you found them to be useful in building readership? Be sure to stop by Brian’s site to get inspired as the collection of business cards grows.
By the way… if you were thinking of dropping by for a visit at the address on the card, you’ll not find me there- we’ve moved. Thought I’d mention… just in case.

Thanks – I have been asking myself this lately and you have helped me decide I do need to get a business card for my blog.
Yes, I really think blogger should have a business card sothat people who read them, can go to your blog and even give opinions about it. We need as many people as we can to always improvising our blog right?
I believe business cards could be very useful in advertising your blogs,This advertising should help your work by calling other people’s attention to what you are writing. They could be a very positive thing to have.
I don’t think I need a business card for now. Perhaps a year or two. Great post though, never thought of that.
Wow! Great looking business card. =) Very attractive. Well doing offline advertising is much better than online ones. It attracts audience that are interested in your site and by word of mouth your site will be more popular as well.
The answer is depend. If you think you need it and help you, then go to get it. If you are blogger who run a business online, then you need to consider about the business card. But let say you are a blogger just blog for fun, then forget about the business card
I’ve been thinking about getting cards for too long without doing anything about it. You’ve just given me the kick (and inspiration) I need to get moving on it.
MOO cards help to decide to do something with cards. people just throw normal blogger visiting card just as they throw a blogger(I am talking about they majority who even don’t know about internet and I have plenty of them).
Thats actually a really good idea. Think I may add my blog to my shops business card, seems like there’s no reason not too?
I was shocked a few months ago when someone died in Iraq and they listed among their credits Blogger. this seemed kind of silly to me. I mean, I take my blogging kind of seriously, but being credited as being a blogger is like being credited as being an air breather-doesn’t everyone blog now?
But to answer the question of the post, no I don’t have blogging business card. But there is something appealing about the idea.
The problem is, my blog is a personal one (although it’s more like a technology blog).
I don’t think putting “my own name”.com on the business card is a good idea
Thanks for sharing this. After reading the entire post I do feel like bloggers do really need a business card. I’m gonna design my own business card now.
Good article, business cards are great for promotion of anything, hand them out everywhere for anything, sooner or later will help your business no matter what you do.
The issue here is that the name is out of date. “Business card” needs to be consigned to the annals of history in such a context, and a leaf taken out of the online world, and rename the piece of cardboard (or whatever else your card is made of) “Contact card”.
Simple.
Moo cards and also buisness cards! got no idea about this. But would like to know about these cards in detail and also their usage. I thing people tends to for things after a day or day.
Yes, I agree – someone who needs to promote a site, be it a blog or a static website needs a business card. Offline promotion will greatly complement your online effort. Sometimes, though, when you sit in front of the computer all day, one tends to forget the importance of making connections outside of the virtual sphere. Thanks for the reminder.
We are not using regular business cards but stickers. The design is the same but some people might just put them somewhere for others to see.
As far as i am concerned a business card is ok for a blogger.
But in europe some tend to have ego issues, for instance few month ago i attended a conference, at the end of the session we started to exchange business cards. One person said, what’s your profession? I responded blogger. He said “is that a hobby or are you kidding me”. Well i had to answer the later. lol
In some countries if not most, a blogger is still considered as a hobby. So for the business card i’ll wait a little, as i am sure that the mentality will change in the future.
You know, this is right on target. I am an artist, have had my website address on my business cards for a while now, but I now realize that my blog is where the action is. I update it far more frequently than my site. Next time I order new cards I’m going to have my blog URL there instead. Thanks for confirming what I already suspected.
Hi,
LOL Do bloggers leave the house for long enough to need a business card. I dont see anyone for weeks.
All the best John
Good discussion!!
Guess it all depends upon what you are trying to achieve in your business and what exactly your business does. If you operate as a pure play and don’t venture out the house for weeks then I guess not lol but if your trying to promote your site any which way you can then yeah, I reckon it is definitely worth it. Which reminds me lol, I better get moving and printing some business cards. Nick
I think that since our activity is mostly online, we could rarely use one, so at least for now, I can’t see the point of having one… Unless, of course, you are Matt Cutts..
I have business cards, but they are implemented with my off line ventures too. I guess when you get big enough online, its understandable to have Bcard. At last, you run a business, make money and need more contacts.
Yeah, I use Vcards…
You surely need a business card. Actually, I don’t believe that your blog is the only business. You probably have more blogs and you probably are or consider yourself a designer, marketer, web developer, etc. Then you need a business card.
If I have business that require me to have business card, then yes, I probably should have one. However, me doing blogging isnt exactly related to my professional life. Blogging is just for fun. I dont need anyone acknowledge me based on my blogging reputation (which is quite bad & amateur). But still, Im enjoying what Im doing with my blog
From what i know we can easily make our own business card within a few minutes. It is just easy . Aside from our business card off line, we can also have one online which is entrecard.
I have not yet gotten a businesscard for my blog, I am considering it for some projects I am planning as they are more specific and may have a wider appeal. I also think that offlinemarketing is quite neglected here in Norway, so maybe an untapped market out there waiting for us?
Great blog by the way.
I use moo cards to advertise my website and blog which have proved popular especially when I’m out for drinks and someone asks me about my photography and I say “hold on a minute here’s my url give it a look”. This always proves popular as they give the photo on the back of the card a look but also my details are on the back
Great initiative by moo and I recommend them to anyone
I have never used any kind of business card. I don’t like them and nor do I like handing them out. I am good at what I do, but I never want to try and make myself look stupid in front of my friends. Business cards have their ups and their downs, but me personally, why carry a ton of them around? Its a waste of paper. Well thats my input..
I manage a website now, which allows others to post their blogs on it, without having to start your own website, go to wordpress, blogspot, etc…this is kind of a ‘local’ blogging hub, for a community. I think it makes great sense to market the website by giving these bloggers their own business cards to handout, or at least the option to help them market their blogs to others, via business cards. Brilliant idea!! Thanks!
When you meet someone important, or a business contact always ask for two of his/her business card. The main reason for this is that you want to keep one and pass the other one to someone who might benefit from his/her services or product.
Asking for two business cards is very flattering to the one who you asked the card from. You also get to stand out from the crowd, chances are the person you asked the card from will likely remember you the most.
Eric,
This is something that I have done for a long time now. You are correct; it creates an impression in the person’s mind that is most favourable. Sometimes the person in question becomes exuberant, and hands over several more, which can be of use.
If you have heard good things about their work, or don’t require their services immediately, sending business their way before requiring their services yourself can be very fortuitous – especially if feedback is received from those who do use their services first.
From what i know we can easily make our own business card within a few minutes. It is just easy . Aside from our business card off line, we can also have one online which is entrecard.
I don’t like any kind of business cards because when you move or if there is any other change you have to 1) fix them and 2) print them again.
Great Post! Business cards are a great idea for anyone looking for publicity.
Business cards have their place in advertising, but I’m not sure it’s for everybody. Sites that offer services (hosting, design, real-life products) may get some nice customers out of it.
However, if you’re just promoting a site that won’t generate much revenue back to you, it may not be the best option. I wonder what the success rate on business cards is. If you give out 100 business cards, how many people actually end up on your site?
I’ll be straight with you, I really don’t need an excuse to get business cards made.
‘Need’ is entirely overshadowed by ‘want’. Especially if they are as good-looking as yours!
Good job!
Thinking of making one after reading your post! Wondering why I never thought on making one
I have always wondered if it was worth getting business cards for my websites. Recently I purchased some flyers to promote my sites. Maybe I will get business cards in the future, I have always fancied some myself.
Perhaps it is an idea to think about one’s daily activities, and work out if there are any opportunities when a business card could come in handy.
It looks like a good idea. But I don’t think I will need a business card for blog. If I need a card, need I type my website http://www.AmandaIEC.com on it?
Hey I think you are right. Bloggers should have a business card. Thank you for the idea. I have been blogging for years, it has never dawned on me until now. Blogging is a big business, and having a business card only makes sense. Thanks for the info, and good luck.
i believe you are correct, because each time you change your address or change your number 1st you must fix the changes then reprint them,Thus it will cost u money so i will choose moo cards.
hi there, nice post. i don´t think a blog needs a business card. the author maybe need one but not the blog itself. i have started a new logo for all of my blogs and i hope to get a good brand this way.
Hello there..
I agreed with Hoto
I think it’s too far right now to have business card for blog.
Sorry..this is just my thought
i have my own blog too! i didn’t know people actually create business cards for BLOGS! interesting ! and nice card btw!
I think that a businees card is useful to those who own a blogshop, meaning selling their products on their blogs. Interesting story!
Thank you for this data it is very useful. BTW I tried to comment on one of your older posts and could not find the link.
Yes, unfortunately due to the amount of spam I get, I had to turn off comments on older posts. Sorry about that and thanks for your comment.
