When I first heard that Google was releasing a new browser, I was a little annoyed. I wondered if we really need another web browser. Then I read the comic book style explanation behind the browser’s development. It’s very well written and explains some complicated concepts in a very clear way that I think even a non-techie person could understand. After reading it, I couldn’t wait to download the browser and give it a try. Will I switch from Firefox? Probably not for a while, because I rely heavily on the plugins for web development that are available for Firefox, but there are also a lot of features that I really appreciate.
The installation was easy and it imported all my bookmarks from Firefox without a problem. Some nice feaures of the browser include:
- a great start page that shows thumbnails of your most most visted sites, along with a search box and your most recent bookmarks
- one-click bookmarking
- a single bar for everything – search, address, history
- lots of added security to keep malware from being installed and warn you of phishing sites
- popups will no longer be a problem
- Every tab you’re using is run independently in the browser, so if one app crashes it won’t take anything else down- you just close the tab
Sounds cool doesn’t it? What do you think? Do you see this as just one more step in Google taking over the planet? Or, do you think it’s a good step forward in the “evolution” of the web browser?

same as jon – LOVE chrome – so fast, doesnt freze – but firefox has all my plugins
i think chrome will replace IE for me, which i use to login to my other email accounts, or visit sites with different passwords so i can leave the main ones open in FF.
I think y’all should read the comic so that you understand the purpose behind Chrome, then maybe you can stop whinging about how this release isn’t as fully featured as Firefox (which took about 5 years to get this way, by the way). Sure, you might decide Firefox is still your browser of choice until Chrome does more stuff, but at least stop talking about things you obviously haven’t bothered to investigate.
My first impression of the new Google Chrome was like this:
a simple and really easy to use browser. I read in a lot of places that it is really a wise browser , way better than opera, mozilla and others. To answer to your question if Google is ruling the world, in my opinion yes… They have money and people to afford the best technology in the world. Lastly i have to admit that i still use mozilla as im not ready for a change in the next few weeks, maybe i’ll get used with the new chrome when i will buy a new PC
I am using mozila firefox and i am satisfied with the performance of this free browser. All the features provided by mozilla firefox satisfied my basic and advance need. I have also heard of google chrome and Now after hearing a lot from you i shall give a try to it. thanks.
They say that because this browser is by Google, it’ll dominate the marketplace for browsers in no time. Could it be that Google really does own the Internet?

Google is there to conquer us – at least for now on the web. Its inevitable. They are too huge to ignore now so even Microsoft is threatened.
So why wouldn’t we?
Great article. Thanks for the good read.
@kristarella – well put, thanks.
I like Chrome, it’s really fast, but to make me switch permanently from Firefox, it needs more than just speed. I think the really interesting part will be the online applications google plans to integrate.
i have been using Google chrome for over the past week its ok, i like the stealth mode angle, however am going to be going back to Mozilla to stop this Google monopoly.
I wondered a lot that google made a browser. But before this article I thought that this browser isn`t good. And now I`m thinking about changing my browser, thanks )
Finally got to actually use Chrome today. Right click on the page and select Inspect Element. Pretty spiffy!
The first time i used the Chrome, it stucked right away when i opened more than 5 webpages. Never used it so far. May try again later
@kristarella – wow! I didn’t know about that. It’s sort of got some Firebug features built in. Thanks!
There are some quality feautures added in chrome, I’ve only had one chance to use it properly and I wasn’t overly impressed. I will withhold judgement until Google release the final version and not just the beta.
Be sticking with ff , found chrome to have issues with certain css, menu rollovers etc, cant beat ff for plugins :}

The recent browser user stats indicate that IE is not affected at all with release of Chrome. The big casualty is Firefox. This does not come as a surprise because IE users are basically too conservative while Firefox users are always on the lookout for new things.
I think google might have missed the mark on this one. Why not just stay in conjunction with mozilla? I guess they had to try and make their own browser but I dont think enough users will be moved to try it. Anyway, most of the “newbies” on the net still use IE and always will.
I think Bill Gate’s retirement came a little late if Microsoft’s goal was to open up creativity upon his departure; I suppose he should have hit the skids about 10 years ago if they wanted to keep up with Google. I would not be surprised if Google puts out an open source Operating System in the next 10 years that surpasses Windows (you heard it here first!)
I’ll keep using FF because of the plugins. <3 my SEO quake!
I downloaded it, used it for a while… But it is really not that great… Firefox is way much better…
Eric I’m with you on the open source OS. However, Google is the Borg, we will all be assimilated. They are the new Microsoft…
Google is too worried about their stockholders now instead of the webmaster community. I will not being it at all.
I’ve switched over from Firefox/IE use to Firefox/Google Chrome. It just manages memory so much better. Oddly, Google no longer has Chrome listed on their front page. Are they doing an about face?
They just announced that they’ll be releasing plugins and greasemonkey-like scripting functionality in future releases. Making this a much bigger contender for me.
I decided to try Chrome for a week and had to stop after do days. It has only speed, lacks features. I will say speed is not an excuse to decrease features.
The first time i used the Chrome, There are some quality features added in chrome, this is not good for designer.
I decided to try chrome 2 week ago. it was great when I started to try but I couldnt give-up to firefox I love it.
I would not recommend using software which is still in beta stage cuz it would have a lot of bugs. Its ok if you just want to try and have a look at it.
With the discounts of being a beta release, Chrome was beyond expectations. It’s sad that google didn’t pay attention to Linux users…
I guess Google will use our surfing information to make Google search even better. Still I wonder if its good to have one so dominating company. They want to make money and will use their power in the best way to make money. I guess we will see what happens.
Still in beta mode the browser will see amazing improvement over the next coming years and with Google looking to now dominate the browser market IE and Firefox must be running scared, very scared!
i would still continue with FF … the features with FF are more friendly for browsing and as per our needs too …
m having Chrome too … few added features are good ones
I like it but I don’t want to change Firefox my default browser any way I’ll wait ie 8 too.
Well i’ve installed GG chrome, but i must say that i’m realy not ready to give up from FF, chrome seems to me just as empty as netscape first version…
I guess that since I have my firefox set up just the way I like it that I am not rushing into Chrome. It’s downloaded and installed, but I’m just not that interested. For me, the biggest plus of Chrome was the overall look and feel.
I absolutely adore the new Chrome browser!! It is the best thing that has ever happened to the internet since adsense =]
Being web-developer I love its “view element code” feature. Other than that there is nothing special about Chrome yet.
Mmm yes I am too lazy right now to switch from firefox to chrome…but if I hear it has cooler new features I could be persuaded…
Im looking forward to see the development of this new browser. I’ll wait untill the stable version release before i switch to chrome. Right now, im stuck with firefox.

I love the new google chrome but for now its still firefox here.I’ll transfer once all the features in the chromes are stable.
Google chrome is the worst browser i have ever seen. When google launched it. May be after a day or two I downloaded it, from the net. It was very promising that time as compared to mozilla and internet explorer. After a few days, it became extremely slow, the site used to take too much time to open. Then i unistalled it.
I agree that Google Chrome looks really nice and it consumes very little resources. I think eventually they wil take over the browser market. Firefox is still my favorite since I have all the plugins but im sure Google will catch up on this soon.
Still plenty of bugs and I still don’t entirely trust Google. I wonder if it will be forever BETA…
I like Mozilla firefox better and I hope that Google still supports them in the future. I hope firefox is around in 3 years.
Google Chrome has some great features that you point out, though I still find myself a bit uncomfortable with the amount of information it’s sending back to Google. Some pages load faster, but I found overall that Firefox is a faster browser for the 95% of places I go.
I don’t like chrome, google have made yet another step towards complete ownership of the the internet. The problem is that so many people who aren’t that technically minded will download it and use it “because it’s google”.
I just tried chrome and I’m amazed at how responsive it is. I was going to upgrade my PC, but now I may wait.
If someone can do something much better then so far build browsers I am for it
I like the chance of set bigger a textarea
