Have you seen the new Wordpress Theme Generator? This free tool was recently launched, and I tried it out today just for fun. (Thanks to Cory Miller for pointing me to it.) If you wanted just a basic, widgetized theme to customize, this would be a decent place to start. Using some drop down menus and color choosers, you can generate a customized theme in a very short time that works with WP 2.1 and all current browsers. I “designed” a theme and set it up in my test installation of WordPress and it worked fine. I didn’t go into the CSS at all- just installed a widget to make sure it worked. There is obviously a need for some tweaking, such as some padding in the sidebars and some other adjustments, but it’s a good idea and kudos to this young man from Rotterdam who built it!
I will make my next blog in the Wordpress platform. It has very much possibilities and services to offer than Blogger. Nice entry. Ciao
That is a way cool tool. I can see it being a quick and easy way to lay down some of the groundwork for a new theme and then come back in and spend time just on the finishing touches.
What a great idea. Good for CSS dummies like myself, and then I guess you can just tweak it afterwards, have bookmarked it.

Suggestions? Hmmm… it’s pretty user friendly. Most of the backgrounds were bad choices, so I would keep the background of the page just a simple color choice. You could go to Adobe’s Kuler color schemer and choose a color scheme first, then just go plug in the codes.
I just implemented the dofollow tag too. I also use wordpress and have almost knowledge of CSS and design but have managed to change some of my design rather easily. Looking forward to do more. Thanks.

Thanks for posting about this… I’m not so great with CSS quite yet so I’ve been sticking to K2 themes because they look nice and play well with styles. I’m going to see what I can do with this generator and maybe finally make my blog look a little more like “mine.”
